The owner of the Magellan lead mine near Wiluna is beefing up its Perth management team ahead of plans to restart the controversial project. Toronto-listed Ivernia has appointed former Perilya exploration manager Bruce Hooper as vice-president of corporate development and exploration, based in Perth. It also plans to appoint a WA-based vice-president of operations, who will oversee the Magellan restart, which is expected next year. Ivernia chief executive Alan De¡¯ath said the management reshuffle reflected the company¡¯s increasing focus on restarting Magellan. ¡°With the issues at Esperance now resolved and the approvals to ship through the Port of Fremantle well in hand and going through (the) final process we are looking forward to getting the Magellan mine back into production,¡± he said. ¡°We are now putting in place the management team to restart Magellan and focus on the next stage of development of the company and the exciting times ahead.¡± Magellan has been on care and maintenance since April 2007 when lead shipments from Esperance were halted. |
